Summary

This book presents the results of a comprehensive study of the impact of the crisis on IFIs and how the changes that have occurred in these institutions affect their activities, with a focus on Bulgaria. In difficult times for the economy, expectations for them increase, which is why the assessment of their role in a global, regional and national plan is of utmost importance for outlining their prospects and future functions. Both the main positive effects on the private sector - the attraction and financing of foreign investors - and the unfavorable trends - a small volume of financing, insignificant investments in innovations, concentration in non-tradable sectors, instability of the financed companies, etc. have been revealed. IFIs in general do not finance projects in Bulgaria according to their capacity, and the country does not make sufficient use of IFI resources. A scoreboard with indicators has been developed to measure the benefits of participation in IFIs, and recommendations have been proposed to the IFIs themselves and public institutions.
